Equity in labs

How do students interact with each other and equipment in labs? In what ways are their practices (in)equitable? What practices and policies promote equity in labs?

This project uses classroom video, interviews with undergraduates, and surveys to examine how students' experiences in labs -- both instructional labs and research labs -- affect their learning, identities, and professional trajectories. We are particularly interested in equity in labs: how are groups' practices (in)equitable? what practices or features of experiments promote equity? how do labs contribute to diverse students' self-efficacy, feelings of belongingness, and persistence in science?

The project is a collaboration between researchers at Kansas State University, Cornell University, and Rochester Institute of Technology.
